Woman from Blackburn cheated out of almost £1,000

A woman from Blackburn has been cheated out of almost £1,000 in a fake lottery scam. The woman who is in her mid-fifties and works as a care assistant received a letter telling her that she had won millions of Euros in a Spanish sweepstake lottery, but instead of winning huge sums of money she fell victim to of one of the ever-increasing number of lottery scams.
After replying to the letter the naive woman received a phone call from somebody pretending to be an official for the ‘Spanish lottery board.’ The caller requested a transfer of £950 to a foreign bank account before any winning could be released. But instead of alarm bells ringing in the woman’s head she duly sent the money to the bogus lottery scammers. After a few weeks of trying to contact the bogus lottery board the unfortunate woman realised she had fallen victim to a lottery scam and contacted the police.
It still begs belief that people are falling for these well-known lottery scams which have been doing the rounds for many years. Lottery news like this pops up all over the world with police forces regularly warning of these scams and many of them making the TV and newspaper headlines, yet still people’s greed allows them to be sucked into these very obvious cons.
