Tonight’s EuroMillions jackpot will revert back to its base value of £10 million (€15 million) after a UK player snapped up a £28.5 million (€40.2 million) bounty on Friday night. The ticket holder is the 51st Briton to scoop the top prize in the popular pan-European game, putting the nation fourth in the list of most successful EuroMillions jackpot-winning countries.

Portugal lies five ahead of the UK on 56 jackpot wins, trailing Spain in second. A total of 74 Spanish tickets have matched all five main numbers and two Lucky Stars, four fewer than France, which boasts 78 top prizes since the game began in 2004.

However, players in the UK tend to do better than their European cousins in the other prize tiers, regularly winning far more cash amounts in each individual EuroMillions draw than any other nation. For example, Friday 14th August saw 630,512 UK tickets claim awards ranging from £3.40 (€4.30) for matching two main numbers up to the eight-figure jackpot. Compared with the next best-performing nation, Spain, with 451,668 winning tickets sharing a prize pool of just €3.5 million, that’s a rather good result!

In addition, one UK player is guaranteed to win £1 million every time EuroMillions is played, thanks to the Millionaire Maker supplementary game.

EuroMillions tickets are available now for tonight’s £10 million draw, with sales closing at 7:30pm BST (8:30pm CEST). You can get hold of them online or by popping into your nearest authorised retailer. Perhaps you could strike it lucky and become British jackpot winner number 52!
