Mega Millions winners face a fraud investigation

Back in December a couple from Long Island, New York scooped the enormous $162 million Mega Millions jackpot all to themselves, just a few days ahead of Christmas. However, now the Mega Millions winners face a fraud investigation following an audit of the homeless shelter that they operate, which shows that the couple has allegedly scammed the US government out of nearly $1 million.

Childhood sweethearts, Richard and Mary Morrison, won the $162 million Mega Millions jackpot in December but now they are facing criticism about a $950,000 discrepancy in their annual figures, following an audit. Suffolk County officials state that the lottery winners owe tax payers $950,000 after figures showed that they paid themselves bonuses and attempted to commit financial chicanery.

In the wake of this huge lottery jackpot win, many neighbours of the Morrison’s say they’re happy for them but think that the lottery winners should cough up the cash they owe. It’s not like they can’t afford it now! However, another neighbour of the Mega Millions jackpot winners, Martin Corrigan, 59, said in their defence “Bill and Mary don’t have a malicious bone in their body. They wouldn’t steal money. They might misplace it.”

There were no jackpot winners in last night’s Mega Millions lottery meaning that Friday night’s draw will have an estimated jackpot of $144 million. If you bought tickets to last night’s Mega Millions draw you may still have a big winner and we have those all-important numbers here at Online Lotto. The lottery numbers drawn in the Tuesday night Mega Millions draw, which had a jackpot of $121 million to be won were; 7, 8, 38, 39 and 48. The Mega Ball drawn last night was 22.
