When you win a fortune you would think all of your troubles would be over but that is not always the case as one Mega Millions winner is finding out after being sued by her ex husband. Patricia Daly who is originally from Ireland but now lives in New York won a massive $21.5 million back in January but opted to take an $8 million lump sum instead.

Mrs. Daly moved to America in 1995 and has worked long hours as a waitress at a Saloon Bar in Long Beach and as a child minder whilst trying to make a comfortable life for her family. Last December she decided to travel home to see her family for Christmas but her flights were cancelled due to severe weather conditions so decided to treat herself to a lottery ticket and won the life changing amount.

Patricia’s ex husband left her and her three kids to fend for themselves over a year ago and is now in a new relationship but when he heard about his ex wife’s Mega Millions win took our a restraining order to stop her spending any of her winnings on the grounds that they were still legally married when the ticket was purchased. Jamie Eisel who works as an ironworker and part-time bartender is claiming half of the $8 jackpot and recently turned down a $1m settlement and no obligation for child support or college costs for the kids

The case is now going to court on September 13th and is predicted to last over twelve months, legal expert Marilyn Chinitz says “She’s going to be splitting that money. I think it’s a matter of how much”. We will be following the case closely and letting you know the outcome at some point in the future.
