Remember last week we mentioned how important it was for you to check all of those National Lottery tickets you have lying around? Well One lucky couple from Nottingham asked their local supermarket to check their tickets and found out they had been sitting on a massive £7.7 million lottery jackpot that is destined to change their lives forever; proof positive that you should always make time to check your numbers just in case you are the next big winner.

Susan and Ivan Westbury from Nottingham matched all six numbers in the Saturday 17th July draw but had no idea they had won until Mrs Westbury popped into her local Tesco store to get the ticket checked. The young assistant behind the counter looked at the winning ticket and then informed her that she should ring the Post Office as soon as possible. The store manager then took her to one side and broke the news to her that she had won the big one and should contact Camelot.

Mrs Westbury asked the shop assistant to phone her husband and give him the good news but he refused to believe it and just kept saying “you’re winding me up”. Eventually he accepted he was a National Lottery winner and headed to the store to meet his wife. When he got there he found his wife in tears and even purchased a copy of the news of the World to check the numbers for himself.

Mr Westbury explained he and his wife drove around for hours in a daze before finally heading back to work running his own lightning protection business. Mr Westbury who has not had a single day off in the past four years intends to carry on working but only a few days a week and still intends to go on the £9.50 Sun Newspaper holiday they have planned for September.

The lucky couple have a large family including three children and seven grand children and are going to share their new found wealth with them but also plan on treating themselves to a new house and a new car.
